Domaine Les Faures
Relaxation and quietness in the south of Perigord

Peter and Dorothée are delighted to welcome you to Les Faures.

In 2002, they first discovered Les Faures in the south of Le Périgord. They have been planning, building, restoring and putting the finishing touches to the main house and the barn development. The surrounding garden of nearly one hectare is tended to with much care by Peter, who had planted many trees and bushes. He has also installed irrigation, essential in this mostly dry climate.

Peter and Dorothée, both of Belgian origin, have studied Germanic languages at the University of Louvain, Belgium. They both speak French, German, Dutch and English. After retiring from their teaching careers, Peter in Verviers, Dorothée in Hasselt, they attended a tourist guide course which particularly aroused their interest in the beautiful nature and rich history of the country in which they now live. In this region there are relics of prehistoric people having lived, and later the troubadours and the Cathars (Catharism was widespread for a short period of time in this region during the Middle Ages). As linguists, they also try to establish the etymology of old Occitan place names.

From the house, you also have beautiful views to the hilltop ruin of the medieval fortress of Cancon, to a valley and a lake, through the plum and hazelnut orchards, across the undulating landscape, with a small Romanic church and an old windmill. The house is a recently-converted historic farm with timber framing and stone walls. Peter and Dorothée have endeavoured to combine modern standards while maintaining the traditional character of the house.
